2026 Oscar Predictions - October 2025

Image
Okay, this is my first time taking on a task like this, so please bear with me. I’m giving Oscar predictions a shot, and this is just gonna be a lot of fun! It’s a long one, though. Each category is in order of likely nomination, not alphabetical or anything. I really don’t have a lot to say for each category, but up here, I’ll talk about some changes that I think could happen. A lot of the technical categories are sort of in flux right now for me because there are a lot of variables. In terms of visuals effects , we obviously know that Avatar: Fire and Ash is winning, but it’s mainly the other nominees that could be interesting. I have Superman and Fantastic Four getting in, but I also have F1 in too. F1 could really fall out, though, and I think either Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning or TRON: Ares could probably take its place. The presence of Wicked: For Good is something I’m still on the fence about. Unless it’s just as praised as Part One last year, I think it’ll...

My Reaction to the 2025 Oscar Nominations

Image
Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in Wicked No time to waste here. I’ve got a lot to write below this point, so let’s just get to the Oscar nominations. As a note, I decided to not include the short film categories, mainly because I just don’t have a lot to say about them. Congrats to all of those nominees. Along with the list, I’ll share my thoughts at the very bottom of this post. Best Picture Anora The Brutalist A Complete Unknown Conclave Dune: Part Two Emilia Pérez I’m Still Here Nickel Boys The Substance Wicked Will Win: The Brutalist Should Win: The Substance Brandon Wilson and Ethan Herisse in Nickel Boys Best Director Sean Baker – Anora Brady Corbet – The Brutalist James Mangold – A Complete Unknown Jacques Audiard – Emilia Pérez Coralie Fargeat – The Substance Will Win: Brady Corbet Should Win: Coralie Fargeat Monica Barbaro and Timothée Chalamet in A Complete Unknown Best Actor Adrien Brody – The Brutalist Timothée Chalamet – A Complete Unknown Colman Domingo – Sing Sing Ralph...

My Reaction to the 2025 Golden Globe Winners

Image
Demi Moore in The Substance Like the last post about the Golden Globes, these are just the movies. I don’t really watch a lot of television. My reactions below are being written in real time during the broadcast, so let’s just lock in and get it going. Best Supporting Performance in a Motion Picture – Actress Selena Gomez – Emilia Pérez Ariana Grande – Wicked Felicity Jones – The Brutalist Margaret Qualley – The Substance Isabella Rossellini – Conclave Zoe Saldaña - Emilia Pérez – WINNER Thoughts: Man, I’m torn on this one. I love Saldaña and she’s definitely the best part of Emilia Pérez , but even as someone who hasn’t seen Wicked yet, I’m shocked Grande didn’t win. Really thought she was going to take it, and I know that my personal pick, Margaret Qualley, wasn’t going to win. Maybe this is the first step to Saldaña winning her first Oscar, which I honestly wouldn’t be mad at, but maybe I’ll block out that it’s a win for Emilia Pérez . Best Supporting Performance in a Motion Pictu...

My Thoughts on the 2025 Golden Globe Nominations

Image
I figured I should get back writing more freely, so I’m just going to talk about the Golden Globe nominations, which were announced earlier this morning (Monday). I’m mainly going to talk about the film categories, but it’s worth mentioning that I watched The Penguin and the nomination for Best Limited Series, along with the performances from Colin Farrell, Cristin Milioti, and Deirdre O’Connell, are all worthy choices. There’s a good chance they don’t win, but I appreciate the nominations a lot. Go watch that, if you haven’t yet. Right out of the gate, the most nominated movie of this year is Emilia Pérez , Jacques Audiard’s ambitious crime-thriller-musical, with 10 nominations across the board. Personally, I’m only about a half-hour into it, and I’m just not a fan. I’m gonna finish it before awards season fully kicks into gear, but I think my thoughts won’t change too much on it. Now, I’m just gonna go through the film categories one by one to talk about how I feel about it. Best Mo...
