I’m sitting in a hotel room in a different state, pretty much wiped from the first day of being at the Eerie Horror Fest this past weekend. Most of this is being written on downtime from the fest, especially since I went to my first midnight screening experience for Rats: Night of Terror last night/this morning. Although, I did just wanna talk about something I saw at a movie theater a few weeks back. I didn’t see a movie, though. That’s why I said “something” and not “movie” or “film,” or if you wanna get real fancy, a “picture.” For this little article, I’m writing about a musician. Not just any musician, though, probably the most famous one on the planet right now: Taylor Swift. I saw her release party thing for her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, at one of the biggest theaters in the area with my girlfriend the weekend it was out, and taking the “watching the thing” out of it, I had a wonderful night! However, we both had the same reaction to the album: that’s it? I’m not exactly reviewing the album here, but this is probably Taylor’s worst album. Although, it did leave me something to at least mention and write about for the sake of it. I write about going to the movies, and I saw this at a very nice theater, but my mind did admittedly wander on what Swift’s future in Hollywood is. She does have that docuseries about that massive Eras Tour on the way this December, as well as a recorded version of the final show of said tour, and something dawned on me about how I feel about her while watching this release party at the theater. I really like how Swift talks about the writing process. I really think that the release party should’ve had more of it, especially since that Disney+ special about folklore really dove into the making of that album. Swift is also making a movie, and I’m not gonna lie, I’m still pretty excited for it. In terms of her fictional writing, the recent songs where she does this have been pretty engaging from that perspective. Granted, a lot of those are on folklore (my personal favorite project of hers), but a feature-length project from Swift has a lot of potential. This isn’t even a review of anything, but I really just wanted to ramble on about Taylor Swift for a little bit. I watched it in a place where movies are watched, so cut me some slack, okay?
